The Magic of a Workshop

There’s something really special that happens when a group of people gather around a table filled with flowers.

When I first started hosting workshops at The Frequency Farm, I knew I wanted people to learn something, create something beautiful, and have a fun experience. What I didn’t realize was just how much I would fall in love with the community that happens around that table, and the joy it beings people.

It has become one of my favourite parts of what I do.

Come Alone. Really.

One of the things I hear often is, “I’d love to come, but I don’t have anyone to go with.”

My answer is always the same: Come anyway.

People come to our workshops solo all the time, and I love that. There is something about working with flowers that immediately gives everyone a common ground. You’re sitting together, choosing stems, asking questions, laughing when something doesn’t quite cooperate, and admiring what the person beside you has created.

Before long, the room doesn’t feel like a group of strangers anymore.

I want our workshops to be a place where you feel completely comfortable walking through the door on your own.

Or Make It an Occasion

Of course, workshops are also pretty wonderful with people you love.

I see friends buying tickets for one another, mothers and daughters coming together, girlfriends planning a night out, and people giving workshop tickets as birthday and holiday gifts.

Instead of buying more things, you’re giving someone an experience.

A few hours to slow down, do something creative, have a drink, laugh, learn something new and leave carrying something beautiful that you made yourself.

Those are the kinds of gifts I think we remember.

We also offer private workshops and events for birthdays, bridal and baby showers, corporate gatherings, girls’ nights and other celebrations. There is something pretty magical about having your favourite people gathered together creating around one big table.

“But I’m Not Creative…”

I hear this one all the time, too.

You do not need to be creative to come to one of our workshops.

You don’t need to know anything about flowers. You don’t need to know the names of the varieties. And you definitely don’t need to walk in knowing how to arrange them.

That’s my job.

I guide you through everything step-by-step, but there’s also plenty of room to make your creation your own.

And one of my favourite moments is watching someone who was convinced they “weren’t good at this” step back from their arrangement at the end and say:

“I can't believe I made that.” It happens all the time.

There’s Something About Working With Flowers

I think we spend so much of our lives rushing from one thing to another. Our phones are always nearby. There’s always something else that needs doing.

Then you sit down in front of a bucket of flowers.

You start choosing colours. Cutting stems. Moving things around. Looking at shape and texture. You get completely absorbed in what you're doing.

For a little while, everything else gets quiet.

And it feels good.

You’re working with your hands. You’re surrounded by beautiful things. You're learning without it feeling like work. You're creating without worrying about being perfect.

There is something incredibly grounding about it.

My favourite response from a returning workshop guest was when she told me she felt likeshe was able to “disconnect” and just enjoy. We need more of this in our lives.

An Experience You Won’t Find Everywhere

I want workshops at The Frequency Farm to feel different.

Many of the flowers we work with are grown right here on the farm. Depending on the season, you might be designing with dahlias, zinnias, sweet peas, sunflowers, fragrant herbs, beautiful foliage or varieties you’ve never seen at a grocery store.

No two workshops - or even two arrangements - are ever exactly the same.

That’s part of what I love about seasonal flowers. We work with what nature is giving us at that particular moment.

And when we take our workshops off the farm and partner with other local businesses and venues, I love creating that same feeling in a completely different setting.

It’s not just a floral class.

It’s an experience.

Come Create With Us

Whether you arrive with five friends or walk through the door by yourself, my hope is that you leave feeling a little lighter than when you came in.

I hope you learned something.

I hope you laughed.

I hope you met someone new.

And I hope every time you look at what you created, you feel ridiculously proud of yourself.

Because ultimately, that’s why I love workshops so much.

Yes, we make beautiful things with flowers.

But somewhere along the way, we’re creating community too.

And that might just be my favourite part.
